Ceramics is a unique form of expression, if there could ever be one.   What a ceramicist makes is permanent and endures the most rigorous form of creation imaginable.  It can simulate all forms of matter; be built upon, taken away or even become the shape of it's container like water.   And then, it is fired to impermeability. The possibilities are endless, and for this, clay has created a very distinct group of individuals who flock to it, like a religion.  Historically, working with clay arose from the primal need to evolve; to use what one had to fill a void or a nitch in every day life.  Scavenged clay became functional vessels through the seamless collaboration of a community.  Loading kilns, making glazes, digging clay and building pots spawned a camaraderie amongst these people that is still alive and well in contemporary ceramicists.  Here is a slideshow of my experiences working in the field, the wonderful people I've met and the places I've gone.   Feel free to contact me with any comments or questions, peruse my galleries and check out my blog.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Rachael Marne Jones
